DIY Monster Party: Adopt-A-Monster Party Favors

As I planned for Dexter's monster-themed birthday party, I was inspired by a blog post called A Monster of a First Birthday Party! Now, I am nowhere near as capable as the author Megan, but I loved her party favors and just had to make my own!

Aren't these crazy adorable??
Being sewing-illiterate, I didn't dare attempt to follow her DIY instructions. Instead, I searched on Ravelry and found a short crochet monster pattern that seemed quick and easy. "Seemed" would be the operative word. Making the pill-shaped bodies was simple enough, but the hand-cutting and hand-sewing for the facial features took forever! Each monster took around 1 to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of limbs or the number of eyes I used.

Wouldn't you want to take one of these home? :)

Aww, the sad yellow monster wasn't picked, but at least Dexter got to keep one for himself.
Apparently everyone else found the adopt-a-monster idea as cute as I did! Some of the adult women in attendance even asked me, "Hey, I noticed you have more monsters than kids... is it ok if I take one too?" ^__^

Even the adults couldn't resist these crocheted cuties. :)
If you have the time and don't want to spend the money buying commercial plushies, I highly recommend this idea to wow your guests!
