I just finished another hat for Dexter, a Futurama brain slug baby hat. I made the first one for Sara's son over 2 years ago, which K remembered and specially requested. This beanie's a little bigger than its predecessor and should fit a 3 to 6 month old. I guess as the human gets bigger, so does the little parasitic alien. :)
This picture made me wish I had one of our baby boy wearing it, which led me to consider, "Wait, should I post pictures of our son online?" The Internet has become an archive of history, both wanted and unwanted. How does this affect a person's ability to be hired, get elected, etc. when there are silly childhood stories and pictures on Facebook and who knows where else? What do you (or would you) use as a rule of thumb for your own kiddos?
I would have no food for my blog if I didn't talk about my kids. It has also put me in contact with other families who deal with the same condition my oldest has, which made the world feel like a much less lonely and scary place when we were going through the diagnostic process. I am going to follow the lead of other "Mommy Bloggers" (cringe) before me and keep blogging until my kids ask me to stop yakking about them. My most basic rule of thumb is that I don't write anything I wouldn't want my Grandma to know. That keeps my blog nice and PG and keeps my dirty laundry in the hamper, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of Lenore Skenazy and the Free Range Kids blog so I also believe that the world is not as scary a place as Fox News would lead us to believe and I live my life accordingly.
@Not Jenny - That's a good rule of thumb. I read on another blog about a father who used his iPhone to snap a quick picture of his 8-year-old girl who was having fun playing dress up, and she immediately turned to him and said, "Please don't tweet that picture of me." Wow! Kids definitely have feelings about online presence that should be considered...
ReplyDeleteI try not to post or blog about my kids - though the odd photo does sneek it's way in occasionally. Keeping my craft blogs about crafts can be tricky sometimes but I would hate to think that either of my two would be embarrised in the future by something I had posted about them now. I also keep my facebook account clear of any photos of my kids as I really don't like their policies regarding images you upload.
ReplyDelete@Jessica - Hehe, I think that's how I'm going to play it. Still a blog mostly about crafts and video games, but the occasional kid picture might slip in like the occasional pet image. :)
ReplyDeleteI read your post its great thanks. Waiting for more new update.
