Last year my boss emailed everyone asking what charities we volunteer for so that she could write a warm and fuzzy holiday season blog post. Um, what charity? Whoops. Given that we had just moved to a new state, I hadn't gotten involved in anything yet, so I was scrambling to find an answer. Why not use my handy-dandy crafting skills? I ended up selecting The Ships Project to make hats for our overseas soldiers and used K as my "head" model for proper sizing.
This year I doubt we're doing the same write-up, but I wanted to continue the tradition of making knitted and crocheted gifts for charity around Christmas. So right after finishing the Halloween decorations, I started making mittens for the Mitten Commitment. Here's what I've finished so far:
You probably can't tell, but they're a pair of Owlet mittens that I found for free on Ravelry. I purposely didn't post a straight-on shot of them because my stranding technique is just terrible looking (always comes out lumpy and uneven). Hopefully the person who receives them won't mind. ^_^;; For the next pair, I'm thinking of continuing the animal theme with these crocheted Shark mittens. :)
Question:
What charities do you like to knit or crochet for?
You're probably too hard on yourself. The mittens look great!
ReplyDeleteAww thanks, Marie! At the very least, they'll be warm and comfortable. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing cat replica... Very impressive knitting :)
ReplyDelete@Seth Lol! You, sir, are awesome.
ReplyDeleteThey look great!!! I've worked for years for this group: http://onlineangels.byethost16.com/index.html
ReplyDeleteNo Italian charity group inspires me the same confidence! :'(
How lovely, Diana! Your dedication and hard work are surely appreciated by those you help. :) Thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteI actually don't knit or crochet for charities but the majority of my crochet are gifts for special occasions. Our charity was so fun - Secret Santa for foster children! And, we also got to help with the Samaritan's purse shoe boxes.
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestion about Samaritan's Purse. Found out my church also has a craft group that is selling their crafts to make money for donation. Too bad the craft group meets during the day.
