Alpaca Wacka

Knowing my love for crafts, Sophia took me to an outdoor arts and crafts fair where we could wander around and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. On the way into the dirt parking lot, we happened to see a small Sharpie-written poster with an arrow saying "Alpaca Market This Way." Alpaca market? Detour, please!

I'm not a fiber snob and rarely shop at yarn stores, so it's safe to say I've never worked with alpaca fiber before. Getting to see real, live alpacas was such a cool experience. Did you know they hum? And they only get sheared once every 1-2 years? And their females can induce ovulation? O_o


Anyway, alpacas are bred exclusively for their fleece and meat, so the animal pens were completely surrounded by booths full of yarn products galore. I just couldn't leave without a souvenir and ended up buying soft, cushy hank of cream-colored alpaca yarn. I had no idea what I was going to do with a single hank, but discovered a cute shawlette pattern called 198 yds. of Heaven. Can't wait to get started!
